Trabectome in Yuma, Arizona, is a glaucoma treatment that reduces pressure in the eye. Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness and vision impairment. One of the effects of glaucoma is a diseased trabecular meshwork and raised Intraocular pressure (IOP). The IOP in the eye is based on a fluid that repeatedly cycles through the eye called the aqueous humor. When the flow of the fluid is blocked, similar to a dam blocking a river, pressure in the eye may increase. This dam is caused by the diseased trabecular meshwork. When the diseased tissue blocks the flow of the aqueous humor it causes abnormal pressure in the eye which damages the optic nerve and leads to blindness.
The Trabectome procedure is a quick and minimally invasive procedure that removes the diseased tissue using an electrosurgical pulse and restores the eye's normal fluid balance. With the removal of the diseased tissue, the flow of the aqueous humor is restored and the pressure returns within the normal range.
