BOTOX® Cosmetic

Most people aren't aware that an ophthalmologist's research led to the development of BOTOX to treat wrinkles. In Arizona, Dr. Patrick Aiello offers the age-defying injections to patients who have frown lines between their eyes that they feel make them appear angry or tired. Dr. Aiello's patients achieve optimal results by having an experienced eye surgeon oversee their injections in a clinical setting.

What can BOTOX do for me?

At his Arizona ophthalmology practice, Dr. Aiello uses BOTOX for both cosmetic and therapeutic reasons. For patients who want to look more youthful, injections are done in very specific areas. For example, for patients wanting to erase frown lines (glabellar folds), Dr. Aiello injects BOTOX in the forehead between the eyes. It can also improve the appearance of crow's-feet at the corners of the eyes.

Although much more popular for its cosmetic uses, BOTOX is also an effective therapeutic treatment for people experiencing eyelid spasms, also called blepharospasm.

How does BOTOX work?

BOTOX temporarily relaxes the facial muscles that cause wrinkles, in addition to helping ease persistent spasms in the eyelids and face. You will begin noticing changes about 2 or 3 days after the injections, but it will be about 3 weeks before the treatment's full effects are seen. BOTOX injections wear off after about 4 to 5 months.

How long is the recovery?

One of the reasons BOTOX is so popular is that you don't need to take time off for recuperation. Depending on the number of injections, the treatment lasts no more than 15 to 20 minutes. Although normal activities can be resumed immediately, it's a good idea to avoid strenuous activities for 24 hours after the injections.
